INCENSE HOLDERS
Material: Glazed Terracotta
Origin: Java
Size: 21 cm
Traditionally used by the Chinese population of Indonesia to hold incense during prayers. After the population converted more and more to Christianity, these containers were used primarily to hold small water plants and were hung on the wall. Now difficult to find as they were easily broken and the custom fell into disuse.
